COMMUNITY PROGRAMS COORDINATOR

The Community Programs Coordinator is responsible for FirstWorks’ outreach and programming with a number of community, educational, and cultural partners, as part of FirstWorks’ mission to connect art with audiences. The Coordinator plans, schedules and implements arts-learning workshops with performing artists at a variety of sites statewide, working closely with educators, artists, youth and community organizations. S/he increases participation by broad and diverse audiences and artists in FirstWorks’ programming, through a combination of targeted outreach to communities, partnership development and performing opportunities for local artists and organizations. S/he assists with administrative duties, arts events and performances.

This is a 25-hour per week position.

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Coordinate FirstWorks’ arts learning program, through:
  • - Regular communication with FirstWorks’ educational partners including middle and high schools, after-school programs, and universities;
  • - Developing an arts-learning plan for 2010-11 that identifies workshop sites and participating artists;
  • - Scheduling and coordinating all details for these workshops;
  • - Coordinate documentation and evaluation following arts-learning programming;
  • - Prepare semi-annual reports on education programming;
  • - Develop new initiatives to expand community programs, working with the Artistic Director and Managing Director, through collaborative ventures and artistic participation by local professional and student performers;
  • - Assist with all aspects of FirstWorks’ performances and events;
  • - Coordinate distribution of free tickets to targeted non-profits and school groups and track for reporting purposes;
  • - Coordinate volunteers for workshops and events, with input and assistance from the Administrative Manager;
  • - Work with Marketing Coordinator to develop communications that engage broad and diverse audiences;
  • - Provide input and assistance with grant proposals and development initiatives in regard to education/outreach programs;
  • - Assist with general administrative duties.

Qualifications:

  • - Bachelor’s degree and/or minimum two years nonprofit work experience;
  • - Experience with community and educational programming, and youth;
  • - Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • - Attention to detail;
  • - Enthusiasm for working as part of a team;
  • - Knowledge of and passion for the performing and visual arts.
